CROSSOVER LOGISTICS
The canon collisions are as follows:
- Blaine Anderson is the biological son of Michael Novotny, who was going to raise him with husband, Ben Bruckner, before Ben passed away from HIV post-QAF canon. Michael remained a single dad and raised Blaine on his own. Blaine's hometown has always been Pittsburgh, which is where he went to public school prior to the Sadie Hawkins bashing. It was after that, Michael decided to send him to Dalton, where Brian and Justin have their two sons. Michael's own sexuality was never a prominent issue once Ben died because he couldn't face the thought of another relationship. He focused solely on raising Blaine, and when Blaine came out mid-teens, Michael panicked that he might end up like Ben with HIV, he tried to stifle Blaine's sexuality thinking it would be safer for him to be "normal", much to the disapproval of his mom, Debbie, and best friend, Brian, and much to the confusion and isolation of Blaine. Blaine has an older brother to his biological mother, Wendy, called Cooper. Wendy was a friend of Ben's in Pittsburgh at the college he taught at.
- Sebastian Smyth and Jeff Hinton are the biological sons of Brian Kinney and Justin Taylor respectively. Even though they didn't get married when they originally planned, Justin ended up returning to Brian in Pittsburgh a year later and they reunited. But Justin wanted kids, and the only way Brian would agree was if they got two out of the way in succession and no more in the future, hence why Sebastian and Jeff are only a year apart in age. Lindsay donated eggs for both boys when Brian approached her explained he wanted them to at least have the same biological mother in case either of them ever needed a spare kidney, and as per usual, Lindsay couldn't never say no to her beloved Brian, especially considering she was more than content with her own wife and children in Canada now and he had done her a priceless favour with Gus way back when. Brian and Justin eventually got married when the boys were five and six years old.
- Surnames of Blaine, Sebastian and Jeff. Blaine's surname was Anderson on his birth certificate, as per his biological mother, along with Michael's as his biological father. However, there was never enough time before Ben fell ill to arrange for him to adopt Blaine and Michael made the choice to wait until Blaine was older for him to decide whether he wanted to take Novotny as the surname. Blaine, having kept a nice relationship with his biological mother and brother, chose to keep Anderson as a thank you for helping his fathers have a baby. It's never been an issue since, though he does sometimes contemplate changing his surname to his dad's. Sebastian and Jeff both legally have their surnames at Taylor-Kinney, and their middle names are Smyth and Hinton respectively.
- At this point, but may change in the future, the Queer as Folk characters still live in Pittsburgh, which is only 3.5 hours drive from Westerville where Dalton is and 4.5 hours drive from Lima, where Kurt and McKinley are. At the commencement of the verse, Kurt, Blaine, Jeff, and Sebastian are all Dalton student who board through the week for class, but go home on the weekends. Nick comes from Florida and only goes home for holidays, and Kurt will return to McKinley as per canon in the "Born This Way" episode.
- Nick Matheson, the 3 to Jeff's 6, is a Florida local hailing from Jacksonville. He is a full-time boarder at Dalton and only goes home on holidays. He has been Jeff's room mate from day one and they have both known they were gay since at least early teens, thought Brian and Justin knew a lot earlier in Jeff just from watching him. He was his father's son, just like Sebastian was very, very much his father's son. Nick and Jeff have been dating since they were fifteen, just a few short months after they arrived at Dalton and they're still going strong.
- Brian Kinney still owns Babylon in Pittsburgh, and it's still as popular as ever. However, he has recently heard of Scandals in Lima, Ohio via Sebastian, who gets in with a fake ID (and considering Brian used to do that sort of stuff himself at Sebastian's age, never really saw a problem with it). But according to Sebastian, it's a bit of a dive and Brian is planning on trying to hone in on it as a second business investment and give it a bit of classic Babylon treatment so Drag Queen Wednesday isn't the highlight of what the bar has to offer. Justin is a full-blown artist in his own right now, and owns studios in both New York and Pittsburgh, but likes to stick close to home to work these days for his family and kids.
- Blaine and Noah Puckerman knew each other before Kurt introduced Blaine to his New Directions friends. Puck was branching out in his pool cleaning business to try and save money for Quinn's pregnancy in sophomore year so he went a bit further afield with his clients, and ended up cleaning Michael and Blaine's pool in Pittsburgh. That's how he met Blaine, and the two struck up a wayward friendship, though Puck never knew Blaine was gay and only came to suspect as much when Kurt showed up at Rachel's infamous Spin the Bottle party. Kurt didn't know Blaine and Puck knew each other, and Blaine seemed to be on some sort of plight to prove himself. And considering Blaine was playing tonsil hockey with Rachel that night, all Puck really knew was that he had epic fun getting his friend drunk and learning he had quite the hilarious streak to him under the Dapper McPreppypants image Puck thought he was.
- Kurt Hummel's canon remains exactly the same as to what plays out in the show. It is only details of Blaine, Sebastian, and Puck's canon that has been twisted a little to accommdate the crossover. Nick and Jeff are generally original characters, save for their minor appearance in the show as Dalton students, so no canon has been changed there. Any other McKinley characters existing in this verse are as to season two canon, which is where we are kicking off from, namely episode 2x14 "Blame It On The Alcohol".
- All Queer as Folk characters here are post-canon and existing approximately 18 years after the series finale. The crossover is obviously not real-time considering QAF ceased in 2005, however we are going with timeline that as to the current Glee canon, in this verse, the story in the QAF ended approximately 1992, about a year and a half prior to the births of the older of the New Directions cast.
